Land Rover has officially unveiled images of its next-generation Range Rover for 2013, announcing the SUV will be both bigger and lighter than its predecessor.

The 2013 Range Rover has been designed and engineered on an all-aluminum unibody structure that is 39 percent lighter than the outgoing steel body.



This allowed Land Rover to knock off a total weight of up to 926lbs, depending on market and specifications. The U.S. market 5.0-litre V-8 Range Rover is about 318 kg (700 lbs) lighter than the 2012 equivalent, for example.

On the inside, the new 2013 Range Rover receives a bunch of upgrades and over 4.7 inches more legroom than the outgoing model.


The engine lineup remains the same as before, consisting of a supercharged V8 petrol engine, TDV6 and TDV8 diesel engines. But duo to the new featherweight structure, they are all much more economical now.

Full specifications and pricing details are expected to be released ahead of the vehicle’s formal unveiling at the Paris Motor Show in September, with deliveries to customers starting in early 2013.

British automotive manufacturer McLaren Automotive has unveiled the new X-1 concept sports car at the 2012 Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance event in the US.

Created for an “anonymous car enthusiast,” the one-off model was built by McLaren Special Operations (MSO) and is based on the MP4-12C.

The mystery man is a devoted McLaren fan who has already splashed out on a McLaren F1, a Mercedes-Benz SLR McLaren and a MP4-12C.

He contacted McLaren’s executive chairman some three years ago and explained he wanted a new model exclusively for himself.


The client wanted a machine that had all the capability of the 12C but wrapped in a unique body that reflected his needs and personality.”

He said it should borrow cues from classic cars (a 1961 Facel Vega, a 1953 Chrysler D’Elegance Ghia, a 1959 Buick Electra, a 1939 Mercedes-Benz 540K and a 1971 Citroën SM), a Jaeger LeCoultre clock, an Airstream trailer, a Thomas Mann Montblanc pen, a grand piano and an eggplant.

The client then hosted a competition which pitted McLaren’s designers against others outside the company. In the end, a design by McLaren’s Hong Yeo was chosen and the client signed off on production.


The resulting model features futuristic styling with a number of retro-inspired touches. Highlights include carbon fiber body panels, unique head- and taillights, custom wheels, solid aluminum trim and covered rear wheels.

The interior carries over from the MP4-12C, but has been equipped with Harissa Red Nappa leather upholstery, nickel-coated aluminum switchgear and titanium-weave carbon fiber trim.

The sports concept is based on the carmaker’s 12C and is expected to be powered by a 3.8litre V8 twin turbo engine mated to a 7 Speed SSG dual-clutch transmission, which allows the concept to generate 616hp output and 600Nm torque.

Bentley has announced that it will make a convertible version of its flagship car, the $290,000 Mulsanne .

Details on the Mulsanne Convertible Concept are scarce, but Bentley is already predicting it will be the “world’s most elegant and sophisticated convertible.

Bentley’s engineers have worked to make the car more driver-focused in comparison to its sedan counterpart which is focused towards the passengers.

The suspension and steering will be tweaked for providing a sharper drive, while a Sport mode is possible which would firm up the suspension and also quicken the throttle and steering.

If the feedback received will be positive, Bentley will put the car into production in about 12 months, with prices starting from about 250,000 pounds.

The popular Breitling Chronomat 41 is now available in a black and red color-set, limited to 2,000 pieces.

Under the transparent sapphire crystal caseback, there is a 41mm polished case with a black dial, instead of the blue dial found on the original watch, with a red central chronograph seconds hand and red counter hands.

The original lines of the steel case are enhanced by all-polished finishes – as are the bracelet and the rotating bezel engraved with exclusive numerals.

The Breitling Chronomat 41 Limited watch has been chronometercertified by the COSC (Swiss Official Chronometer Testing Institute).

It is water resistant to 200 m (660 ft), and features 70 hour power reserve. The wristwatch is limited to only 2000 pieces, while pricing details are still unknown.

This week Campbell’s Soup released a series of limited-edition cans to commemorate the 50th anniversary of Andy Warhol‘s Campbell’s Soup cans artwork.

The limited edition of the condensed tomato soup cans have labels derived from original Warhol artwork.

The four specially-designed labels were conceived to represent the artist’s pop-art style using strong color combinations like orange and blue, and pink and teal.

The cans will be available starting September 2 at Target stores in the US for $0.75 per 10.75 ounce can.

The set of 32 canvases were presented by Warhol in 1962 at his first solo gallery exhibition held in Los Angeles, and since then they have become a symbol of the artist’s career as much as the pop art movement. “I used to have the same (Campbell’s soup) for lunch every day for twenty years,” the artist said back then.

Campbell’s Soup company, which initially considered taking legal action against the artist, has sold Warhol-inspired cans on two other occasions.

Back in 2004 the company sold 75,000 four-packs of Warhol-inspired cans at Giant Eagle, a supermarket operator based in Pittsburgh. In 2006, the company sold 12,000 units at Barney’s in New York during the holiday season.

Sheraton is the most sought-after luxury hotel brand on the Internet in mainland China, followed by Hilton and Shangri-La, according to a recent report released by Geneva-based luxury market research firm Digital Luxury Group (DLG).

According to the survey, Sheraton, a Starwood brand, came on the top of the list with almost 14 percent of the overall searches.

The report attributes the success of the brand to the fact that Sheraton was the first western hotel brand to arrive in China.

The brand arrived in 1985 right after the economic opening of the country. Sheraton has plans to open 12 new hotels across China in 2012 and expand its portfolio to 80 properties by 2015.

Among the non-western brands, Hong-Kong based Shangri-la comes in third position followed by The Peninsula, also based in Hong Kong, in seventh position.

The Nikko Hotels brand, based in Japan and originally owned by Japan Airlines, came in ninth position.

Under the name “The world luxury index China: Hotels,” the report carried out by Digital Luxury Group, analyzed more than 170 million online searches during the first trimester of 2012.

Swiss manufacturers Hublot has launched its King Power FC Bayern Munich timepiece, a watch that was designed by the team in collaboration with the brand.

The King Power FC Bayern is a titanium chronograph with a precise 45-minute display specially developed for football players. The watch comes with a red stripe detail on the black rubber strap and a large FC Bayern Munich logo on the dial.

The new model was unveiled with the brand’s chairman Jean-Claude Biver and Bayern Munich’s executive board member Karl-Heinz Rummenigge.

Limited to just 200 individually numbered pieces, the King Power FC Bayern Munich is now on display at the headquarters of the FC Bayern München club.

Boeing has delivered the first BBJ 747-8 to sport a new optional extra – an eight-person sleeping area, called the Aeroloft.

The Aeroloft, designed and built by Greenpoint Technologies, is located above the main cabin between the upper deck and tail of the airplane.




The additional space provides an extra 36.5 square meters of additional space. That brings the total cabin space to 481.2 square meters.

Boeing is still sticking to this aircraft is going to an, “undisclosed customer,” but it has been well established that this plane will go to the government of Qatar.



The aircraft was flown by BBJ president Steve Taylor and BBJ chief pilot Rene Gonzales to Lufthansa Technik in Hamburg, Germany, for completion of its VIP interior. The aircraft is scheduled to enter service in 2014.

Porsche Design is celebrating its 40th anniversary with a new box set composed of three historical watches.

The luxury box set includes three timepieces that have left a mark on the history of Porsche Design.

The Heritage P’6510 Black Chronograph model was the first entirely black watch on the market when it was designed in 1972.

The P’6520 Compass Watch, from 1978, was the first timepiece to boast a compass, and the Heritage P’6530 Titan Chronograph (1980) was the first timekeeper made of a significant amount of titanium.

Porsche Design is celebrating 40 years of innovations by reissuing the trio of iconic watches, adding a few contemporary elements, such as a wider dial.

Only 100 Heritage P’6500 box sets will ship globally, each of them priced at €15,800.

Applying their signature black PVD coating all over, the designers then added gold markers and hands for the dial. It’s an exercise in beautiful simplicity.

Asia’s first Legoland is ready to open on September 15 in Johor Bahru, Malaysia. The theme park is dedicated to the popular toy building bricks.

Legoland theme park in Malaysia will include 40 rides, shows and attractions as well as interactive features that will allow its visitors to build, pedal, steer and splash.

The 76 acre (30 hectare) theme park will cater to children from 2 to 12 with roller coasters, racing cars and dedicated to the family.

The main highlight of the park is Miniland, where Asian landmarks have been recreated using more than 30 million Lego bricks. The interactive world at a 1:20 scale includes people, trains and airplanes.

According to Siegfried Boerst, general manager of Legoland in Malaysia, the park includes 50 million Lego bricks and models.

The first Legoland opened in 1968 in Billund in Denmark and today the Lego-themed parks count five locations including Windsor (UK), Gunzrburg (Germany), Carlsbad (near San Diego, California) and Winter Haven (near Tampa or Orlando,Florida).

Merlin Entertainment group, owner of the park, announced earlier this year that it was building a Legoland hotel in the area scheduled to open during the first half of 2014.

French premium brand Zadig & Voltaire will open its debut hotel in 2014, located in the private mansion used to stage the label’s debut show in Paris earlier this week.

The brand’s founder Thierry Gillier calls it “a project dear to our hearts”, and it’s apparently going to be so exclusive that certain people are not allowed.

“It will be a slightly private hotel, not open to everybody, with 40 rooms. We are going to select guests. It won’t be open to Chinese tourists, for example. There is a lot of demand in Paris — many people are looking for quiet with a certain privacy.”

Since its publication yesterday morning, WWD‘s article has been quietly amended — the quote in question now reads simply “busloads of tourists,” no ethnicity specified.

A handwritten letter in which Albert Einstein questioned the existence of God is going up for sale on EBay, with bids starting at $3 million.

The “God letter”, which the physicist wrote in German a year before his death in 1955, includes his thoughts on religion, God and tribalism.

Einstein sent the letter, written on Princeton University letterhead, to Eric B. Gutkind on Jan. 3, 1954 concerning Gutkind’s book, Choose Life: The Biblical Call to Revolt.

The letter was first bought by a bidder in London in 2008 for just over $400,000 and has since been stored in a special facility with a controlled environment.

Eric Clapton is selling one of the finest of his watches, an ultra rare platinum-cased Patek Philippe (reference 2499/100P) Perpetual Calendar Chronograph.

Launched in 1951, reference 2499 was in production for nearly 35 years, during which a total of 349 watches were made.

The only two examples ever cased in platinum were most likely never intended for sale. In fact, one of them highlights the wristwatch section of the celebrated Patek Philippe museum in Geneva.

This masterpiece of horology becomes available at auction this year for the first time since its original sale nearly a quarter century ago.

Clapton’s watch is expected to fetch over $4 million when it goes under the hammer at Christie’s Geneva Auction on November 12 at the Four Seasons hotel in Geneva.

Clapton is a renowned watch collector and once released an album called Timepieces. As well as the Patek Philippe watches he also owns several Rolexs.

Croatia‘s tourism sector, a driving force in the country’s ailing economy, registered record figures during the first eight months of the year, a minister said on Friday.

“Based on the results achieved so far and announcements (for the rest of the year) this is the best tourist season in Croatia’s history,” Tourism Minister Veljko Ostojic told reporters, based on figures of arrivals and overnight stays.

During the first eight months of the year, which include the July-August peak tourist season, Croatia hosted 9.82 million visitors, mostly on its stunning Adriatic coast. It was a 4.22 percent hike compared with the same period in 2011.

At the same time the country registered almost 59 million overnight stays, some five percent more than in January-August last year.

The minister repeated the country’s drive to increase tourism income by three to five percent this year. ”The goal is to achieve or surpass seven billion euros ($8.8 billion)” in income from tourism, he said.

But, Ostojic warned that new tourism investments were crucial for Croatia.

Most of the travellers flocking to Croatia’s Adriatic coast were Germans who made up some 20 percent of the overall figure. They were followed by Slovenians, Austrians, Italians and Czechs.

Called “Manifesto,” the new perfume will be available at the end of August in France, followed by a wider release in September.

Jessica Chastain follows in the footsteps of fellow actress Emily Blunt and supermodel Kate Moss as an ambassadress for the brand.

Vertu, the exclusive mobile phone maker has decided against Windows 8 and chosen a less than exclusive operating system to power future models.

The company famous for its exclusive handsets that incorporate expensive materials including carbon fibre, titanium, leather and even gold, with a concierge button, is dropping its Symbian operating system in favor of Android.

The decision is believed to be linked to reports that appeared in the press over the weekend that Nokia has sold the business to EQT, a private equity group.

And while Nokia has been looking to sell the business since June, as all Vertu phones are based on Nokia technology and components, it was believed that Vertu, like its now ex-parent company, would move over to the Windows 8 operating system.

Popular with NBA stars, rappers and Premier League footballers alike, Vertu was the original luxury handset, the cell phone equivalent of the American Express black card.

But since the launch of the Ulysse Nardin Chairman – which combines the best elements of a smartphone wih the best of a handcrafted Swiss chronograph and was recently named by the Guinness Book of Records the world’s most expensive mobile phone series (handsets are strictly limited and can cost up to $100,000) — it has been slowly slipping into second place in the category it created.

French luxury silverware company Christofle has joined forces with iconic Dutch designer Marcel Wanders to create a new line of flatware called Jardin d’Eden.

The handles and backs of these beautiful serving pieces are decorated with a single engraving, like a ballerina’s leg garbed in embroidered hosiery.

Patterns of interlacing, leaves, flowers and curls are inspired by a lush garden. The cutlery is available only on special order from Christofle.

Budget carrier Tiger Airways has introduced a new Tiger Plus premium add-on service, reported travel website TTGAsia.com Monday.

The premium service, part of the carrier’s initiative to expand its product and service offerings, will be available for flights departing from Singapore Changi Airport T2.

Tiger Airways, which operates from Singapore and Australia, flies to over 30 destinations across 14 countries in the Asia-Pacific region.

Passengers who are on the premium service will have access to SATS Premier Lounge at Changi Airport Terminal 2.

Amenities at the lounge include free flow of refreshments and beverages, shower facilities, massage chairs, workstations with high-speed internet access, wireless internet connectivity and cable television. Tiger Airways is the first low-cost carrier to provide access for passengers to the premium lounge.

Tiger Plus, which costs about $39, is available for Tiger Airways flights departing from Singapore and can be purchased online or at service desks in the terminal.

The passengers will also have access to a dedicated check-in counter providing an early check-in service from 4am to 11.59pm on the same day as their flight.

This new service adds to Tiger Airways’s existing premium offering, the BoardMeFirst priority boarding service, which costs about $5 per person per flight segment.

Airline add-on services are growing in numbers and complexity as carriers continually devise new services and products to sell.

American Airlines recently introduced a new baggage delivery service within four hours of arrival priced from US$29.95 to US$49.95, while US Airways now has a premium meal in economy on international flights for US$19.99.
